About the Institution: Sambalpur University started operating on July 4, 1967. The institute was founded to fulfil the long-awaited dream of the citizens of Western Odisha. The Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education (DDCE) on July 30, 2021, was renamed as the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE).
The Sambalpur University Distance Education is approved by UGC-DEB and AICTE. The Department of Distance Education under DDCE started much later after the establishment of the main college, and from its inception, the division has been dedicated to offering quality education to everyone in Odisha state.
The Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education, or DDCE, began functioning in 1998 with on-campus collaboration with postgraduate departments of the university. In 2000, DDCE launched PGDIT, PGDCA, and BCA programs, and in 2003 the council started incorporating MCA (both lateral and direct) and DCS courses. In 2006, DDCE further added off-campus studies of MBA, and later introduced programs such as DCA, PGDCA, BBA, BCA, MBA, and MCA with NICE (National Institute of Computer Education).
